Is my seriousness about life a sign of maturity, or just a lack of sense of humor?

Seriousness? That is the disease, not the cure!
You think your seriousness shows maturity... but look at a child. A child is sincere, but never serious. An old man is serious, but rarely sincere. Who is more alive? Who is more authentic?
The serious person is dead already. He is carrying his coffin around, calling it responsibility. He is so afraid of making a mistake, of looking foolish, that he has forgotten how to dance, how to sing, how to simply be.
I am not saying become irresponsible... I am saying become response-able. There is a great difference! A serious person is rigid, frozen, afraid. A man with a sense of humor is flexible, flowing, able to respond moment to moment without the weight of the past crushing him.
Your seriousness is not a sign of maturity. It is a sign that society has succeeded in making you dead while you are still breathing. They have taught you that laughter is childish, that play is waste of time, that life is a burden to be carried with a long face.
But existence is celebrating every moment! The birds are not serious. The flowers are not serious. They are here, now, totally... and that is the only maturity there is.
So yes... your seriousness is a lack of sense of humor. Drop it! It is heavy luggage you are carrying for no reason at all.
